Ioseliani, Plato Ignatievich

Platon Ignatievich Ioseliani ( Georgian პლატონ ეგნატეს ძე იოსელიანი ; 1810 - 1875 ) is a researcher in the civil and church history of Georgia . The biographer of George Saakadze and the last Georgian king George XII .

Biography

After graduating from the St. Petersburg Theological Academy , Ioseliani became a teacher of physics and philosophical sciences at the Tiflis Theological Seminary . Later he was an official of special assignments under the Caucasian governor. In 1849, with the support of Mikhail Vorontsov, he made a state trip to Greece and visited the medieval Georgian Iversky monastery on Mount Athos.

Plato Ioseliani was an excellent expert on the history of the Georgian Church and Tbilisi antiquities. Collaborated with Academician Brosse . In 1838, the Imperial Academy of Sciences and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church instructed Ioseliani to analyze ancient historical acts (gujars) collected by the Georgian Synodal Committee [1] .

From 1845 to 1855 Ioseliani worked as the editor of the Transcaucasian Herald . He devoted much time and effort to the rehabilitation of the Georgian national hero Georgy Saakadze .

Ioseliani's works were published in the Journal of the Ministry of Public Education ( 1842 ), the Journal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs ( 1844 ), the Caucasus , the Caucasian Calendar, and some other local publications. He issued a separate book, Traveling Notes on Dagestan ( 1862 ). In 1880, the latest work of Ioseliani, “On the Last Georgian King George,” was placed in the Georgian journal Iveria.

Ioseliani was married to Princess Anne Bagration-Muhraneli (1839-1913).

He was buried in a fence built by him “according to a vow”, to recover his son, the Ascension Church ( Amagleba Street ), and later reburied in the Didube pantheon .
