He is a member of the French Academy of Sciences [2] , the European Academy , EMBO , the Academy of the American Cancer Research Association (2014) [3] , a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (1985) [4] , the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences .

In 1958 he received the degree of doctor of medicine at the University of Strasbourg .
