The son of Heinrich Borvin I and his wife Matilda (Mehtilda) of Braunschweig - the illegitimate daughter of the Duke Heinrich Leo .
In 1219 (or 1218), he received from the father in administration a specific principality with a center in the city of Gadebusch.
He died on September 28, 1225 during the collapse of his dilapidated castle in Gadebusch (fell from a great height).
