David Spurgel ( born David Nathaniel Spergel ; born March 25, 1961 , Rochester , New York ) is an American physicist . The works are mainly devoted to astrophysics . He is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

In 1982 he received a bachelor's degree at Princeton University , in 1985 he defended his thesis for a Ph.D. at Harvard University [1] . Since 1987 he has been working at Princeton University. Leading theorist in the design of the WMAP spacecraft, designed to study the relict radiation resulting from the Big Bang .
He is also involved in the theory of dark matter and is involved in the development of equipment for the search for exoplanets .
