Chad Edward Mendes ( born Chad Edward Mendes ; born May 1, 1985 ) is an American mixed martial artist who performed in the featherweight category. He was a contender for the UFC title.

Wrestling career
High School
Speaking for Hanford High School, Mendes became 8th in California among beginners in 2001. In 2002, he took 5th place as a junior and in 2003 3rd place in the older age group. He was selected for the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
NCAA
Mendes fought and played for the team at the California Polytechnic University. He ended his career with a total result of 64-14.
Mixed Martial Arts Career
The early years
Having made some conclusions for himself, Chad decided to engage in mixed martial arts in the Team Alpha Male team. He performed at the Palace Fighting Championship, where he walked without defeat.
World Extreme Cagefighting
Mendes began his career at WEC with a fight with Eric Koch on March 6, 2010 at the WEC 47 tournament. That fight ended in a victory for Chad Mendes by unanimous decision. On April 24, 2010 Mendes at the WEC 48 tournament met Anthony Morrison, and strangled him with a guillotine in the first round.
On August 18, 2010 at WEC 50, Chad fought with Kab Swanson , winning the match by unanimous decision.
UFC
Chad Mendes moved from WEC to UFC in 2011. In the first fight against Rani, Yahya Chad won by unanimous decision and earned his first title chance. In the fight with Aldo for the belt of the champion of the featherweight division, he lost by knockout in the first round. After the defeat, Mendes gained a good shape and for a long time occupied the first line in the featherweight rating. Thus, having earned another title fight against Jose , but even there he lost by unanimous decision. He lost his last two fights by knockout, McGregor in the second round at UFC 189 and Frankie Edgar in the first round at TUF 22 Finale. At the moment, he occupies the third place in the ranking of featherweight.
In July 2016, he was disqualified for 2 years due to the use of growth hormone stimulant (GHRP-6), which violates the USADA anti-doping policy. The first fight after returning was held on July 14, 2018 against Miles Jury and won by TKO in the first round. On December 29, 2018, at UFC 232, he lost to Alexander Volkanovsky by technical knockout (punches) in the second round. After this defeat, he decided to end the career of a fighter.
