Biography
Born in Keshmark (now Kezmarok , Slovakia) on January 6, 1818 . After graduating from school in his hometown, he studied philosophy and theology at the Keshmark Higher Grammar School. In 1842-1843 he studied botany and chemistry at the Debrecen Protestant College. In 1845, Khazhlinsky entered the Vienna Technical University , where he studied botany, geology, paleontology, chemistry, physics.
Since 1846, Friedrich August Hajlinsky taught mathematics and natural sciences at Eperees Lutheran College, and subsequently for a long time was its director. In his free time, he studied the species composition of the flora and mycobiota of the region, published several publications on mycology.
Friedrich Augustus Hajlinsky died in Eperes (now Presov ) on November 9, 1896 .
The main herbarium of lichens collected by Khazhlinsky is kept at the Hungarian Museum of Natural History in Budapest (BP). His samples are also available at the Berlin-Dahlem Botanical Museum (B), the Field Museum in Chicago (F), the Natural History Museum in Florence (FI), the Tyrolean State Museum in Innsbruck (IBF), and the Netherlands Herbarium in Leiden (L, WAG) , Tatra Poprad Museum (POP), South African National Institute of Biodiversity (SAM), Uppsala University (UPS), Vienna Museum of Natural History (W).
