Digestif

Italian Amaro Digestives

Digestiv (from lat. Digestivus , FR. Digestif "digestive aid") - the general name of drinks that are served after a meal. It is believed that digestif helps digestion of food. In the Middle Ages in France at the end of the meal they drank a drink based on wine , sugar and spices .

Digestif can be compared with an aperitif served before meals, but digestif is usually stronger. There is an unwritten rule: serve light drinks as an aperitif, and dark ones as a digestif.

Usually it is cognac , Armagnac and other varieties of brandy or whiskey , such as grappa , calvados . Liqueurs and balms , as well as fortified wines with a rich taste - sherry , madeira , port can serve as a digest. Strong drinks are used because the taste of thin, light wines will not be perceived after a hearty meal. It is also believed that the digestif should be combined with the drinks used at the meal. So, if the food was accompanied by beer , then malt whiskey would be more appropriate than cognac or Armagnac.

Some types of cocktails are also used as a digestif. Non-alcoholic drinks, such as tea or coffee , although they are usually drunk after meals, are not considered digests.

Digestif Cocktails

Digestif cocktails - one of the types of digestifs, cocktails and mixed drinks (mixes, mix-drinks), which are traditionally drunk during or after meals, as their composition contributes to the absorption of food [1] .

This is a large group of various cocktails with a variety of flavors - sour, sweet, sweet and sour, etc. This variety is explained by the fact that a variety of drinks and products are used to prepare digestif cocktails: hard drinks and wines , liquors and syrups, fruit juices, eggs, honey , cream , etc. [1]

Depending on the taste of the cocktails, and therefore on the components included in the recipe, and the methods of preparation, they are divided into numerous subgroups: [1]

  • Cocktails Sauer
  • Frozen cocktails
  • Cocktails flip
  • Smash Cocktails
  • Cream Cocktails
  • Layered cocktails
