Biography
Born on June 6, 1922 in the town of Zerkle ob Krki (now Slovenia). Slovenian by nationality. From childhood, he was sympathetic to Slovenian and Croatian communists, and also hated the Italian fascists, since his compatriots were subjected to bullying in Italy. He was a member of the revolutionary organization TIGR , worked as an employee. He volunteered for the front during the April war , after surrender, he went into armed resistance.
Member of the Communist Party of Slovenia since 1942. In the partisan ranks he served in the 2nd Slovenian brigade named after Lyubo Scherzer as political officer of the company first, then the battalion and the whole brigade. He participated in the campaign of the 14th Slovenian division in Styria.
After the war, Butara served in the armed forces of Yugoslavia and further, rising to the rank of major general. He headed the Ljubljana military district, was the secretary of the National Defense Council of the Slovenian Socialist Republic (since 1978). He graduated from the Higher Military Academy in Belgrade in 1964. Head of the Association of Slovenian Veterans of the People's Liberation War of Yugoslavia. Author of a number of articles and essays on the theme of the People's Liberation War of Yugoslavia.
Butara criticized the Western Allies, accusing them of post-war genocide of the German civilian population, and condemned the rehabilitation of Slovenian collaborators. According to him, Slovenia followed the bad example of France, even having pardoned Henri Pétain .
