Short Biography
Born in the family of a famous historian - his father Maurice Lombar (1904-1965) was engaged in the medieval history of the Mediterranean. He graduated from the Lyceum of Louis the Great (1955), the Practical School of Higher Studies (1963) and the School of Oriental Languages (now the National University of Oriental Languages and Cultures) (1961-1963). He defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Paris (1990) [3] . He traveled a lot, traveled to various countries in Asia: China (1964-1965), Indonesia (1966-1969), and others. He was fluent in Chinese, Indonesian, Khmer and Thai. In 1969-1993 was director of the cultural studies department of the Higher School of Social Sciences , from 1993 until his death, director of the French School of the Far East . In 1973 he took an active part in the XXIX International Congress of Orientalists, which was held at the Sorbonne . He was one of the founders of the French oriental journal Archipelago ( Fr. Archipel ) (1971) and one of the initiators of the creation of the European colloquium on Indonesian and Malay studies (1979), the initiator of the French-Soviet colloquium on the problems of Southeast Asia and Indochina (1989 , 1991, 1997). Numerous works cover the problems of China and Southeast Asia, shipping in Asia. He was a supporter of the theory of history developed by Fernand Braudel [4] .

- The Nusantara Society has dedicated Deni Lombar to the XI European Colloquium on Indonesian and Malay Studies , which took place in 1999 in Moscow .
