Biography
Louise Cole was born September 15, 1810 in Aix-en-Provence . In order to escape from the provinces and live in the capital, she married the composer Hippolyta Kohle , while still a very young girl.
In 1836, the young poetess made her debut in the literary field with the verse collection “ Fleurs du midi ” and for four years received the first academic prize for poetry. These successes have caused strong attacks and ridicule from the famous writer Alphonse Kappa ; Brought out of patience, the poetess threw herself with a knife in her hands on the offender, but failed to kill Alfons. This story caused a great sensation and was transmitted from mouth to mouth by friends of the one and the other side [5] . Later, Kolya detailed the entire incident in a letter to Le Figaro (March 29, 1869) [6] .
Louise Kohle led a rather dissolute life. In 1840, her daughter Henrietta was born, but neither her husband nor her lover, Victor Cousin, agreed to acknowledge paternity [7] .
Louise Colet's literary salon was a rallying point for various celebrities of the day, and her friendly relations with Cousin, Vilmen, Musset and Flaubert made her name very famous. Some noise was made by the publication of the letters of Benjamin Constant , as if bequeathed to the poetess m-me Rekamye. But when Kolya began publishing them, the heiress of Mr. Rekamye, Mr. Lenormand, started a process that ended with the confiscation of letters [5] .
Cole’s poetry collections deserve attention, in addition to Fleurs du midi, Penserosa, Le poéme de la femme, La paysanne, La servante, La réligieuse, Les satires du peuple. The most famous writers' prosaic works are: “La jeunesse de Mirabeau”, “Les coeurs brises”, “Folles et saintes”, “Lui roman, contemporain”, “Histoire d'un soldat” and “Ces petits messieurs” [5] .
Louise Colet died March 9, 1876 in the city of Paris and was buried in the town of Verneuil-sur-Avr .
