Jesse Donald (Don) Notts ( born Don Knotts , July 21, 1924 - February 24, 2006 ) is an American comedian film, television actor. Five times was the winner of the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy series .

Biography
Don Notts was born in Morgantown , West Virginia . He grew up during the Great Depression . Notts had two brothers, one of whom died of asthma when Notts was still a teenager. He graduated from Morgantown School and was educated at the University of West Virginia . He began to act as a ventriloquist and magician even before graduation. While serving in the army during the war, Knotts worked on entertainment shows for soldiers. In 1948, Notts married, the couple had two children. In 1969, he divorced. After several roles on Broadway and a role in the film It's Hard to Be a Sergeant he became a regular guest star on the Steve Allen show. Notts received 5 Emmy Awards for his work on the Andy Griffith show in 1960-1965. After leaving the show, he starred in many films. Over the course of his half-century career, Notts has played in more than 25 films and 7 television series. In the film This Crazy, Crazy, Crazy, Crazy World, he played with comedians such as Buster Keaton and Jonathan Winters . In 1997, he voiced the Turtle in the cartoon " Cats Don't Dance ." Don Knotts died in 2006 in Los Angeles [5] [6] [7] .
In 1998, a street was named in his honor in Notts' hometown. [6]
