Biography
Anna Karlsson was born on May 12, 1975 in the town of Karlskoga Lena Orebro . She began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained in a local canoe club called "Bofors".
The first serious success at the adult international level was achieved in 1997 when she got into the main team of the Swedish national team and visited the World Championships in Canadian Dartmouth, from where she brought the bronze medal award won by four-seater crews at a distance of 200 meters. A year later, she performed at the world championship in the Hungarian Szeged, where she became a bronze medalist in twos per thousand meters and a silver medalist in fours per thousand meters.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, she won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens - as part of a two-seat crew together with partner Sofia Paldanius, she started the 500-meter distance, reached the final and showed the eighth result in the decisive run.
After the Athens Olympics, Karlsson remained in the Swedish rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 2005, she won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Polish Poznan, in fours at two hundred meters. The following season, she won bronze medals at the European Championship in the Czech Račice and at the World Championship in Szeged - both in the two-kayak competition in the two-hundred-meter distance. In 2007, at the European Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, she won bronze again in the same discipline. Soon after the end of these competitions, she decided to end her career as a professional athlete, giving way to the young Swedish rowers in the team.
