Viscount Monkton Branchly of Brenchley in Kent County is a hereditary title in the Peerage system of the United Kingdom . It was created in February 11, 1957 for a lawyer , a conservative politician and former Secretary of Defense, Sir Walter Monkton (1891-1965). He was a member of the House of Commons for West Bristol (1951-1957), served as Solicitor General for England and Wales (1945), Secretary of Labor (1951-1955), Minister of Defense (1955-1956) and General Treasurer (1956-1957). His son, Gilbert Walter Riversdale Monkton, 2nd Viscount Monkton Brinchli (1915-2006), was a major general of the British Army.
As of 2013, the title bearer was his eldest son, Christopher Walter Monkton, 3rd Viscount Monkton Brenchesky (born 1952), who replaced his father in 2006 . He is a journalist , known for arguing about climate change and as the creator of the new puzzle “Eternity . ”
