Individuals of this species grow up to 40 cm [2] . The body is fusiform, the tail fin is bifurcated. The mouth is small, terminal, retractable.
The body is blue with a yellow tail. In young individuals, the yellow region extends diagonally from the neck or front of the dorsal fin to the lower part of the caudal fin. In adults, only the tail remains yellow [3] .
Caesio teres is widely distributed in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region , absent in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf . It lives in the water column in deep lagoons and at reefs at a depth of up to 50 m [2] .
Caesio teres feeds on zooplankton, according to the type of food - zooplanktophage [4] .
Caesio teres leads a daily life, lives in groups and forms schools with other cesion fish, such as Caesio xanthonota . These two species of fish are often confused, although in Caesio xanthonota the yellow zone does not change with age, in contrast to Caesio teres . This yellow zone stretches from the "forehead" between the eyes along the dorsal fin to the tail.
