Biography

Nikolai Yarmolchuk was born in 1898 in the village of Lyuban, Rivne region. Of Ukraine [1] . He worked as a fitter at the Kursk Railway in Moscow. Member of the AUCP , member of the suppression of the Kronstadt rebellion of 1921 [2] .

He studied at the Moscow Higher Technical School and the Moscow Power Engineering Institute , the first in the world to invent a high-speed electric train of the original design (Sharopoezd), speeds of up to 300 km / h [3] , as well as a tray way for high-speed trains (later began to be used for hovertrains); rubber coating of train wheels (used in subway trains); streamlined shape of cars and electric locomotive, similar to the modern; aerodynamic brakes, subsequently found use in aircraft [4] .

Veteran of the Great Patriotic War , participant of the Battle of Kursk (1943). He fought in the 4th Ukrainian Front , military rank engineer-captain .

He died in April 1979 after a long illness at the age of 80 years.

Social activities

In the 1950s, he led a circle of young designers in the Bauman House of Moscow pioneers, who developed a universal model of a ball train for driving on roads with any surface. The work was presented at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow [5] .

Brother Sergey G. Yarmolchuk. Niece Sofya Sergeevna Yarmolchuk [6] .

Awards

Order of the Red Star (1945) [7] .

Memory

The exposition is devoted to the project of the Sharpoe-train in the museum of the TsMZHT MPS , in St. Petersburg .
