Apolipoprotein L1

Apolipoprotein L1 (apoL; English apolipoprotein L1, apoL1 ) is a minor plasma apolipoprotein , which is part of high density lipoproteins and is always associated with apoA1 . Identified by one of the latter in the apolipoprotein group. Presented not only in the blood, but also in the central nervous system along with apoE . The role of protein is unknown.

Gene and protein

ApoL is expressed in many tissues ( lungs , pancreas , prostate , liver , spleen and placenta ). It is characterized by high expression in the central nervous system (as well as apoE and apoD ). There are 6 apoL isoforms (apoL 1-6), each represented by its own gene. All genes are on chromosome 22 .

The protein belongs to amphipathic proteins, that is, it is a true apolipoprotein, molecular weight 42 kDa. 12 alternative splicing products of 6 apoL isoforms were detected. [one]
