Joseph Turoboysky

Joseph Turoboysky - Russian writer, teacher, archimandrite of the Russian Orthodox Church .

He graduated from the Kiev Academy . He was a teacher of philosophy at the Kiev-Mohyla Academy .

In April 1701, he arrived in Moscow from Kiev at the invitation of Peter I, along with Little Russian monks (Rafail Krasnopolsky, Athanasius Sokolsky, Anthony Streshovsky and others), who were called upon to strengthen teaching at the first higher educational institution in Russia - the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy.

He was a professor of rhetoric and prefect of the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy in Moscow (since 1703). Since 1708 - archimandrite of the Simonov Monastery .

Works

He composed the meeting ceremony of Peter the Great upon his arrival in Moscow after the conquest of Livonia , as well as inscriptions on the triumphal arches and paintings for the entry of Peter the Great into Moscow after the Battle of Poltava .

He wrote a book: “The solemn gates, introducing immortal glories into the temple, the invincible name of the new Hercules, the great victor of Thrace”, etc. He owns the engraving and verses, presented, with dedication, to Stephen Jaworski ; engraving depicts "Christ, stricken with death" (Rovinsky, "Russian people. Pictures", vol. III, art. 439, No. 1098, p. 701, No. 1684).
