Division Creation
The 289th Assault Aviation Division was formed on August 4, 1942 on the basis of the Order of the NPO [1] as the 289th Mixed Aviation Division .
Renaming and disbanding a division
- The 289th Mixed Aviation Division in March 1943, after joining the 10th Mixed Aviation Corps, was renamed the 289th Assault Aviation Division.
- In April 1956, the 289th Assault Aviation Nikopol Red Banner Division was renamed the 289th Nikopol Red Banner Fighter-Bomber Aviation Division .
