“ The Pretender ” (from the English “pretender, impostor”) is the song of the American rock band Foo Fighters from their sixth studio album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace . It was released the first single from the album on August 21, 2007 and became one of the group’s most popular songs, reaching number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 , and becoming the group’s third single to make it to the top 40.

Description
The song "The Pretender" was recorded in the style of hard rock and post-grunge . Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl described it as “stomping a fast Foo Fighters song with a little Chuck Berry addition” [1] . In a 2007 interview on XFM radio, talking about the meaning of the song, Grohl hinted that its lyrics were connected with the political instability that existed at that time [2] .
“The Pretender” was listed under number 47 on the 2007 List of Best Songs by Rolling Stone Magazine [3] . In 2008, the song received a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance , and was also nominated for Best Rock Song and Record of the Year . The song took 94th place on the MTV Asia chart for 2007 [4] .
A video clip was shot for the song , gaining more than 143 million views on Youtube by 2015. In 2008 , the clip was nominated for the MTV Video Music Award as the best rock video, but lost to Linkin Park's “ Shadow of the Day ” [5] .
"The Pretender" was the most frequently played alternative rock song of 2007. She was number one on the Alternative Songs chart for 18 weeks. This record was only broken five years later by Muse with their song “ Madness ” [6] .
