Biography

Luca Negri was born on October 4, 1973 in the city of Pavia . He began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained in Rome in the capital's sports club “Fiamme Oro”.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1996, when he became a member of the Italian national team and thanks to a series of successful performances he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Atlanta Summer Olympics . With a four-seater crew, which included rowers Andrea Covi , Enrico Lupetti and Ivano Lussignoli , at a distance of 1000 meters he managed to reach the semi-finals stage, where he showed the third result at the finish.

After the Olympics in the United States, Negri remained in the main team of Italy's rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1997, he visited the resumed European Championship in Bulgarian Plovdiv, winning in both disciplines in which he took part: in doubles at five hundred and a thousand meters. In addition, this season he went to the World Championships in Dartmouth, Canada, from where he brought silver and gold dignity awards, won in the half-kilometer and kilometer kayak races, respectively.

At the 1998 World Championships in Szeged, Hungary, Luka Negri went up to the podium three times: he became the champion in two at a thousand meters, as well as a silver medalist in two at five hundred meters and four at two hundred meters. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end the career of a professional athlete, giving way to young Italian rowers in the national team.
