History

The Viscount Gage title was created on September 14, 1720 for Thomas Gage (until 1702-1754), together with the daughter title of Baron Gage from Castlebar in Mayo County ( Peerstvo Ireland ). In 1744, he also succeeded his cousin in the title of the 8th Baronet from Fire Place . The Gage family comes from John Gage (d. 1633 ), who on March 26, 1622 received the title of Baronet from Fire Place in Sussex County ( Baronetry of England ). His great-grandson, Sir William Gage, 7th Baronet (1695-1744), represented Seaford in the House of Commons (1727-1744). He was succeeded in 1744 by his cousin, Thomas Gage, 1st Viscount Gage and 8th Baronet (d. 1754). He served in the House of Commons from Tewkesbury (1721–1754) and Arundel (1727–1728), and also served as governor of Barbados (1738–1739). In 1720, the titles of Baron Gage and Viscount Gage were created for him ( Irish Peersty ). His second son, the Honorable Thomas Gage (1720-1787), was a major British military leader .

Lord Gage in 1754 was succeeded by his eldest son, William Hall Gage, 2nd Viscount Gage (1718-1791). He represented Seaford in the House of Commons of Great Britain (1744-1747, 1754-1780) and served as a pension treasurer (1755-1763). In 1780, he was created the title of Baron Gage from Firel in Sussex, with the rank of British Peer , and in 1790, the title of Baron Gage from Upper Meadow in Gloucestershire ( Peerstvo of Great Britain ) was created for him. After the death of Lord Gage in 1791, the title of Baron Gage from Fire Place faded, and the title of a baronet and Irish titles was inherited by his nephew , Henry Gage, 3rd Viscount Gage (1761-1808). He had the rank of major general of the British army.

As of 2010 , the title holder was his descendant, Henry Nicholas Gage, the 8th Viscount Gage (born 1934 ), who inherited his older brother in 1993 .
