Biography
Vasily Ivanovich Osokin was born in the village of Podozerki, Vetluzhsky district, Kostroma province (now the Vetluzhsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region ) in a peasant family. He graduated from the 2 classes of school, worked as a rafter on the Vetluga and Volga . From 1937 to 1939 he served in the Red Army .
In August 1941, the Resurrection District Military Commissariat was again drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War from October 1941.
On July 17, 1943, reconnaissance Osokin was awarded the medal “For Courage” , because in the village of Ozerki in the Oryol region, in the first battle, broke into the enemy’s trench and destroyed two enemy soldiers, and on July 15, in the depth of the enemy, he found two “cuckoos” and destroyed them .
On June 26, 1944, the enemy’s fire broke down the crossing over the River Drut to the north-west of Rogachev . Sergeant Osokin with his squadron of sappers, under a fierce enemy, restored the crossing with fire and thus ensured the advancement of tanks and artillery. By order of 217 Unechsky division of July 26, 1944, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
During the period from October 23 to November 3, 1944 to build defensive fortifications along the right bank of the Narev River in the area of Makuv Mazowiecki , Sergeant Osokin, commander of the engineer platoon, installed 1,500 anti-tank mines and 1,486 anti-personnel mines. November 23, 1944, participating in the capture of the "language", provided the scouts safe passage to the enemy's trenches, as well as skillfully held the group back, which was not a loss in the group. By order of the 48th Army of December 4, 1944, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
Senior sergeant Osokin, during the breakthrough of the highly fortified, deep-echeloned enemy defenses on the outskirts of Makuv Mazowiecki and during the development of the offensive on January 14-15, 1945, acting ahead of the attacking rifle subunits, made passes in the minefields and wire obstacles of the enemy, along with the fighters of the detachment took off 200 anti-tank and 280 anti-mine min. On January 18, 1945, with a detachment of soldiers, he cleared the streets and buildings in Przasnysz ( Powiat-Przasnyski , Masovian Voivodeship ), disarmed 6 time bombs in the buildings of the city, preventing their explosion and casualties among the soldiers of the Red Army and the peaceful Polish population. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
Senior Sergeant Osokin demobilized in May 1947. He returned to his homeland, lived in a working village named after MI Kalinin , worked at a cardboard factory.
Vasily Ivanovich Osokin died on January 29, 1984.
