Gartig, Robert

Robert Hartig ( German: Robert Hartig , May 30, 1839, Braunschweig - October 9, 1901, Munich) - German scientist, arborist and mycologist. The son of Theodore (1805–1880) and grandson of George Gartig (1764–1837).

Hartig is known for his many special studies on the laws of tree growth and afforestation and the development of various species of fungi parasitizing on woody plants. After completing a special education in forestry under the guidance of his father, he attended lectures at the university, then was a teacher at the Eberswald Forest Academy . Since 1878, he was a professor of plant anatomy and physiology and phytopathology at the University of Munich . In 1888, Gartig was elected a member of Leopoldina .
