Zipline, zip-line - descent using gravity along a steel rope with a separation from the ground, through the air, using a special device using blocks ^[1] . Widely used as an adventure or entertainment and a thrill. ^[2]

History

Such devices, consisting of cables or ropes and blocks , placed between two points, and using the force of gravity for transportation, have been known to people for a long time. They were often used in rough terrain to transport people and goods through canyons , rivers, and impassable areas in remote areas of China, the Costa Rica rainforest, and Australian sparsely populated areas.

Similar devices and devices in different countries were called differently: in the Alps they were called the Tyrolean crossing ( English Tyrolean crossing, Tyrolean traverse ), in other places a flying fox ( English Flying fox ) or a strong inclination ( English inclined strong ). In Herbert Wells' novel "The Invisible Man" of 1897, a "strong tilt" is mentioned as part of the Day of Spirits. ^[3]

Interesting Facts

The highest zipline with a length of 1300 meters is located in the Val Thorens ski resort in France and runs at an altitude of 3250 (start) to 3000 (finish) meters above sea level. The speed of descent for one minute 45 seconds is 60-100 km / h. ^[4] ^[5] .

The longest stationary ziplines in the world as of 2017 are ^[6] :

2830 m - Zipline on Mount Jebel Jais in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates). ^[7]
2545 m - Copper Canyon Zip Rider. Currently the longest single span Zip Line in the world. Located in the Copper Canyon in Mexico. The maximum speed on the descent is 105 km / h, the vertical drop is 442 m. ^[8]
2500 m - Zipline Stoderzinken. Located in Austria. The maximum speed on the descent is 125 km / h, the vertical drop is 161 m. ^[9]

2213 m - Volo Dell 'Angelo Zipline. Located in Rocca Massima, Italy. The maximum speed on the descent is 140 km / h. ^[10]

2130 m - Eye of Jaguar Zipline, located north of Cuzco, Peru. The maximum speed on the descent is 110 km / h. ^[eleven]

2000 m - Unreal Zip, located in Sun City, South Africa. The maximum speed on the descent is 160 km / h. ^[12]

1900 m - Mega Tirolesa Pedra Bela Zipline, located in Brazil. The maximum speed on the descent is 107 km / h. ^[13]

1800 m - ZipFlyer Nepal, located in Nepal. With a maximum descent speed of 140 km / h and a vertical drop of 600 m, ZipFlyer Nepal is one of the most extreme trolleys in the world. ^[fourteen]
