History
The title of Viscount Bangor was created on January 11, 1781 for Bernard Ward, 1st Baron of Bangor (1719-1781). Previously, he represented in the Irish House of Commons Down (1745-1770), Killillef (1761) and Bangor (1768). In 1770, the title of Baron Bangor was already created for him from Ward Castle in County Down ( Peerstvo of Ireland ).
His son, Nicholas Ward, 2nd Viscount Bangor (1750–1827), sat in the Irish House of Commons from Bangor (1771–1776) and was declared insane. He was succeeded by his younger brother, Edward Southwell Ward, 3rd Viscount Bangor (1790-1837). His eldest son, Edward Ward, 4th Viscount Bangor ( 1827 - 1881 ), sat in the House of Lords of Great Britain as an Irish peer-representative in 1855 - 1881 . His younger brother, Henry William Crosby Ward, 5th Viscount Bangor (1828–1911), was also an Irish peer-representative in the House of Lords ( 1886–1911 ). His son, Maxwell Richard Crosby Ward, 6th Viscount Bangor ( 1868 - 1950 ), served in the House of Lords as Irish Peer-Representative from 1913 to 1950 , and was also a Senator for Northern Ireland ( 1921 - 1950 ) and Speaker of the Northern Senate Ireland ( 1930 - 1950 ).
As of 2014 , the title holder was his grandson, William Maxwell, David Ward, 8th Viscount Bangor (born 1948), who succeeded his father in 1993 .
