Joachim II Hector ( . Joachim II. Hector ; January 13, 1505 , Cologne - January 3, 1571 , Köpenick ) elector of Brandenburg , son of Joachim I, inherited his father in 1535 in the Old and Middle marks .

In 1539 he accepted Lutheranism , with the retention, however, of many old ceremonies. By his extravagance, which his financial agent encouraged the Jew Lippold , Joachim led to a breakdown in state finances, but he inherited the future expansion of the country's borders with the terms of inheritance with the Duke of Silesia (1537) and the acquisition of rights to Prussia .
In 1542, during the Turkish campaign , he commanded the imperial army in Hungary ; the campaign brought him neither glory nor benefit.
Family
In 1524, Joachim II Hector married Magdalena of Saxony (1507–1534), daughter of George the Bearded and Barbara of Poland . Children:

- Frederick (1530–1552).
Widowed, married in 1535 to Jadwiga Jagellonke (1513–1573), the daughter of Sigismund I. Children:
- Elizabeth (1537–1595), married to Franz Otto Braunschweig-Lüneburgskim
- Sigismund (1538–1566),
- Gedwig (1538–1589), married to Julius Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel
- Sofia (1541–1564).
