Play career
Doug Somner made his adult football debut in 1971 with appearances for the Falkirk club team, in which he spent three seasons, taking part in 45 championship matches and scoring 12 goals.
From 1974 to 1984 he played with Air United , Partis Thistle , St. Mirren and Hamilton Academic . Speaking for St. Mirren in the 1979/80 season, he became the top scorer of the Scottish Championship and received a bronze medal in the championship.
He completed his professional playing career at the Montrose Club, for which he played for 1984-1986.
