Biography and career
Born June 4, 1928 in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province of China.
From a youth, he was interested in theater, participated in amateur school and student productions. During the civil war in China, he joined the army troupe and in 1949, together with the Kuomintang forces , ended up in Taiwan , where he continued to play in the theater professionally. Here, Tien Feng made his first experience as a cinematographer, starring in one of the first Taiwanese film productions on Putonghua's "Clouds over Alishan" [3] . Since the Taiwanese dialect (belonging to South Minnan dialects ) remained the primary language of cinema in Taiwan in the 1950s and early 1960s, its main work, like for other actors from the mainland, remained a stage play, although later the actor learned this language, starring in a number of films in Taiwan, as well as gaining experience as an assistant director, assistant producer, etc. [4]
In the early 1960s, he moved to Hong Kong, worked under a contract with Shaw Brothers. He played the roles of a predominantly supporting character in a number of films. He collaborated with directors such as Li Han Han, King Hu, Zhang Che, Cheng Gang, Hou Xiaoxian, John Wu, Jackie Chan, Wong Karwai and others. It is best known for Hong Kong films with martial arts (both the Wuxia genre and the “kungfu films” that have gained popularity among them), mainly in negative or “dual” roles [5] , however, it played in many films and other types of roles and was considered universal supporting actor [3] . In addition to acting, he performed other duties in film crews [4] , in particular, being an assistant director in the films “Bride Abduction” (1962) and “ Liang Shanbo and Zhu Intai ” (1963) [3] . Later, he also directed the films The Golden Seal (1971) and Attack to Kill (1975) [3] .
After completing a ten-year contract with Shao Studios, in need of funds to pay for the education of his two children abroad, he participated in various independent productions in both Putonghua and Cantonese in Hong Kong, and subsequently for some time in the United States. He later returned to Taiwan, where since the late 1970s he starred in television series.
After 2004, due to poor health, he practically stopped filming, while remaining active in his private life, including actively using e-mail and social networks, as well as collecting tea and tea paraphernalia [3] . In 2014, 10 years after the actual end of his career, the actor was awarded one of the most prestigious film festivals in the Golden Horse region with a special prize for his lifetime contribution to cinema, commenting that he had been waiting for this moment for the past half century [6] [7] [8] .
He died in October 2015 [9] [10] [11] .
