The city is the sixth largest city in Switzerland in terms of the number of people living in it, with more than 100,000 people (as of 2008 ). In a local dialect, residents call it abbreviated as Vinti . Winterthur is called the “city of museums” in Switzerland - there are a large number of art museums in the city, including the Museum of Photography and the Museum of Technorama . In addition, Winterthur is a major industrial center in Switzerland. In 1862, Bank in Winterthur was founded here.
One of the advantages of the city is its transport accessibility . The city is connected by rail with the main cities of both Switzerland and neighboring countries: Germany, Italy. It is only 19 minutes from Zurich and 13 minutes from Zurich Airport . Through Winterthur there are motorways leading to Geneva (A1 motorway), Schaffhausen (A4 motorway) and to the German border, to the city of Kreuzlingen (A7 motorway).
