Gelfingen ( German: Gelfingen ) is a former commune in Switzerland , in the canton of Lucerne . It was part of the district of Hochdorf . The population was 764 people ( 2007 ). The official code is 1027 . On January 1, 2009, together with the communes Rechville , Hemikon , Mozen , Muswangen and Sulz, it became part of Hitzkirch .

Gelfingen was first mentioned in 1045 as Gelvingun [1] .
In the 2007 elections, the Christian Democratic People’s Party of Switzerland received the largest number of votes (35.5%), 23.3% voted for the Swiss People’s Party , and 22.7% voted for the Free Democratic Party.

Geographical position
Gelfingen's area was 3.9 km². 64.9% of the area was agricultural land, 25.2% - forests, 9.6% of the territory inhabited [2] . The municipality is located next to Heidegg Castle on Lake Boldegg. On May 21, 2006, an unsuccessful attempt was made to unify Hitskirch with the next ten communes, in a vote of 5 out of 11 voted against the merger [3] . Later, there was a proposal to merge only seven communes (Gelfingen, Hemikon, Mozen , Muswangen , Rechville, Hitzkirch and Sulz ), which was adopted [4] . The united commune had an area of 24.62 km² [5] .
Population
In 2007, the population of Gelfingen was 764 people. 94.1% of the inhabitants speak German, 1.4% speak English, 1.0% speak Portuguese. In 2000, 35.4% of the population were under the age of 19, 56.3% - from 20 to 64 years old, over 64 years old there were 8.3% of the population. In 2005, in Gelfingen, the unemployment rate was 1.21% [2] .
