Biography

Dariusz Bialkowski was born on July 16, 1970 in the city of Bialogard, West Pomeranian Voivodeship . He began to actively engage in rowing in early childhood, was trained in Bydgoszcz at the local sports club Astoria.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1992, when he became a member of the Polish national team and thanks to a series of successful performances he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona . In twos at a thousand meters, together with teammate Grzegorz Kotovic, he won a bronze medal, losing only to crews from Germany and Sweden.

In 1995, Bialkowski performed at the world championship in German Duisburg, where he became a bronze medalist in doubles at thousands of meters and fours at five hundred. Being one of the leaders of the rowing team of Poland, he successfully qualified for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta - at the kilometer distance in the doubles with the same Kotovich this time he showed the fourth result in the final, not reaching the prize positions.

After the Olympics in the United States, Bialkowski remained in the main squad of the Polish national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1997, he represented the country at the resumed European Championship in Bulgarian Plovdiv, where he won a silver medal in the kilometer race of four-seater crews, and then at the World Championships in Canadian Dartmouth he received bronze in the same discipline. Two years later, became the European champion, winning the competition in the Croatian Zagreb in the kilometer race of four-seater crews.

In 2000, Dariusz Bialkowski went to represent the country at the Olympic Games in Sydney , won a bronze medal in fours at a distance of 1000 meters - only teams from Hungary and Germany passed him in the final. The last time showed any significant results in the 2004 season, when he won a bronze medal at the home European championship in Poznan and visited the Athens Olympics , where he took eighth place in the kilometer classification of four-seater crews. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end the career of a professional athlete, giving way to young Polish rowers.

Married to Polish kayaker Aneta Michałak , world champion in 2002.
