Henry Augustus Dillon-Lee, 13th Viscount Dillon (1777-1832)

The Viscount Dillon title was created on March 16, 1622 for Theobald Dillon (d. 1624 ), Lord Chairman of Connaught . The Dillon family was of Irish-Norman descent. Dillons from the 13th century owned estates in the county of Westmeath , which was known as the "county of Dillons." His great-grandson, Theobald Dillon, 7th Viscount Dillon (d. 1691 ), was a supporter of Catholic King James II Stuart and was outlawed after the Glorious Revolution . He created the " Dillon Regiment " in the Irish brigade in the French army, which played a role in the victory of the French army at the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745 . The 7th Viscount Dillon died in the Battle of Ohrim in County Galway .

However, his son Charles Dillon, the 8th Viscount Dillon (d. 1713 ), was able in 1694 to achieve the abolition of the exile of his father, regained his title and estates, and then served as the viceroy of the county of Roscommon . His younger brother, Lieutenant General Arthur Dillon (1670-1733), received the French title of Count Dillon in 1711 . James Francis Edward Stewart, Jacobite pretender to the English throne, granted Arthur Dillon the title of Earl of Dillon. His son, Henry Dillon, 11th Viscount Dillon (1705-1787), served as a colonel in the French army . In 1793, the Dillon Regiment in France was disbanded. His son, Charles Dillon, 12th Viscount Dillon (1745-1813), adopted Anglicanism in 1767 and sat in the House of Commons of Great Britain from Westbury (1770-1774). His son, Henry Augustus Dillon-Lee, 13th Viscount Dillon (1777–1832), sat in the House of Commons from Harwich (1799–1801, 1801–1802) and Mayo County (1802–1814). His great-grandson, Eric Fitzgerald Dillon, 19th Viscount Dillon (1881–1946), was a foreman in the British Army.

As of 2014 , the title holder was his great-grandson , Henry Benedict Charles Dillon, 22nd Viscount Dillon (born 1973 ), who succeeded his father in 1982 .
