Sofronius ( ancient Greek Σωφρόνιος ; lat. Sophronius ; IV century - V century ) - Greek Christian writer and translator. In chapter 134 (which is devoted to Sofroniy) of his book “On Famous Men”, Jerome Stridonsky speaks of Sofroniy as a man of the highest scholarship. Sophronius wrote, while still a young man, “Praise Bethlehem”, later wrote a significant work “On the overthrow of Serapis ”, “The Epistle to Eustachius”, “On Virginity”, “The Life of the Monk Hilarion ”. Books Sofroniya not preserved. Sophronius translated the small works of Jerome Stridon from Latin into Greek with a refined style. In addition, Sofronius translated the Psalter and the books of the Prophets, previously translated by Jerome from Hebrew into Latin, into Greek.
