Bolivarian Games 1981

The 9th Bolivarian Games were held from December 4 to 14, 1981 in Barquisimeto ( Venezuela ). The games were attended by 1516 athletes from 6 countries. In February 1980, Barquisimeto was chosen to replace the city of Lima , Peru , which had originally claimed this right. However, the Olympic Committee of Peru was refused due to financial problems. The games were officially opened by Venezuelan President Luis Antonio Herrera Campins . The torch was lit by fencer Militsa Carmen Perez.
