It’s a city on the Pacific coast and therefore the Oregon Coast Aquarium (where Keiko from the movie “ Free Willy ” lived for some time), the Hatfield Marine Science Center , and the Yaquina Head Light , the most Oregon High Lighthouse).

Climate
Newport has a mild climate and humid weather throughout the year, with increased rainfall during the winter.
In October 1962, gusts of wind in Newport reached 222 km / h (before the anemometer stopped working). This happened during the Columbus Day Windstorm .
In December 1964, Newport was flooded with an unusually heavy rainfall, then 530 mm of precipitation fell.
In January 1950, a record amount of snow fell in Newport - 15 cm during the month, with the usual norm of 4 cm.

Geography
According to the US Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 27.43 km² of which 23.44 km² of land is 3.99 km² of water.
Demographics
As of 2010, according to the US Census, the population was 9989 people. As of 2013, the estimated population was 10,117 people.
According to the 2010 census, there were 4,354 households and 2,479 families residing in the city. The population density is 1104 people per km². Racial Composition: 84.1% White , 1.6% Asians, 0.6% Blacks , 2.1% Native Americans, 0.2% Hawaiians or Oceans, 7.5% Other Races, 3.9% descendants of two or more races.
The average age of the population is about 43 years. About 20% of residents were under the age of 18, 8% were between the ages of 18 and 24, 24% were between 25 and 44 years old, 29% were between 45 and 64 years old, and 19% were aged 65 or over. The gender composition of the city was 49.1% of men and 50.9% of women.
Economics
Rogue Ales brewing company is located in the city.
In August 2011, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration moved its base for research vessels from Seattle to Newport. The base employs about 110 naval officers, as well as about 175 employees. The base serves four vessels.
