History

The 111th brigade began its countdown on October 15, 1939 in the city of Velikiye Luki, Kalinin Region. And almost immediately entered into a military confrontation: from 1940 she participated in the war with Finland as part of the 7th army, and on March 12-13 she stormed the city of Vyborg . After the Finnish campaign, the brigade was relocated to the Ukrainian city of Bila Tserkva . Here she found her World War II.

In early July 1941, the unit was transferred to the Western Front near Vitebsk , where at the Rudnya station its soldiers took the battle with the German army. In autumn 1941, the brigade took an active part in the defense of Moscow , for which in January 1942 one of the first artillery units received the name of the Guards.

From 1943 to 1944, the guards liberated the territory of Belarus and Lithuania . In June 1944, the brigade participated in breaking through the enemy’s defense in the Vitebsk region and liberating the northern part of Belarus.

In April 1945, the brigade was awarded the Order of Kutuzov, II degree, for capturing the cities of Ornet and Penenzhno . And the guardsmen completed the hostilities during the years of the Great Patriotic War by storm of the fortified city of Königsberg and forever inscribed the honorary “Königsberg” in the name of the compound.

In September 1945, the brigade was relocated to Bobruisk , and from 1961 to Brest. And until 2002, it was on the territory of the Brest Fortress in a military town, which was built by the Poles in 1932 for the 31st light artillery regiment. [1] [2] [3] [4]
