Story
Hungover Murphy, a novice filmmaker, wakes up on January 1 in his Paris apartment at the sound of a phone call. Next to him, blonde Omi sleeps in bed, a woman whom he hates, but lives with, since she is the mother of his son Gaspar. The guy still passionately loves his ex-girlfriend - the artist Electra. She threw Murphy after she found out that Omi was expecting a child from him. On the phone, the guy listens to a message left by Electra’s mother, worried that there has been no news from her daughter for two months. It wakes up in Murphy painful memories of the time when he was happy, - about the time spent with Electra.

Casting
“Love” is the debut of the two main film actresses Aomi and Clara, whom the director met in the club. [6] But Gaspard Noe found Karl Glusman, who played the role of Murphy, through a mutual friend. [7]
Filming
Filming took place mainly in Paris. [2] Most of the sex scenes in the film are improvisation. [8]
Release
The week before the premiere of the film at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, Alchemy acquired the rights to distribute it in the United States. [9] [10] In Cannes, the film was screened on May 20, 2015 in the Midnight Screenings section and amazed critics with a large number of realistic sex scenes. Also, the tape was selected for display in the "Gala Premieres" section at the Odessa International Film Festival 2015 [11] , as well as in the "Vanguard" section at the International Toronto Film Festival 2015. [12]
In Russia
In September 2015, the Russian Ministry of Culture refused to issue a rental certificate to the film due to, according to officials, "numerous pornographic scenes." It was expected that the company Premium Film will release "Love" in Russian hire on September 3. A company representative said that “soft materials” will be used for rental (frames in which the genitals and sexual intercourse are directly demonstrated will be cut or retouched). In addition, the film was supposed to be released with an age limit of 18+ and appear only on movie night shows. [13] However, the film was shown on the screens of Russian cinemas as part of festival screenings [4] [5] .
In other post-Soviet countries
In Georgia, a criminal case was opened on the fact of the demonstration of the film, since its content is recognized as pornographic [14] .

On Metacritic, the film received 51 points out of 100, which are based on 27 reviews, which means “mixed or average reviews.” [16]
