Biography
Born February 8, 1875 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He studied at the Indianapolis Art School ( English Indianapolis Art School ), then in the League of Art Students of New York with Henry Mowbray .
The artist's first works appeared in periodicals Harper's Magazine , Collier's Weekly and Scribner's Magazine . He also illustrated the books of Jack London , Francis Burnett and Henry Cabot Lodge .
Frederick Ion specialized in historical military subjects, especially the American Revolution and the First World War [1] . One of his most famous paintings is the portrait of George Washington in the Valley Forge military camp [2] . He also designed the US postage stamp (1929), dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the victory of the American military commander George Clark at Fort Fort Vincennes .
Died June 6, 1933 in Norwalk, Connecticut.
