Viscount Gort ( English Viscount Gort ) - a hereditary title in the Irish Peer system . Gort is a small town in the county of Galway in the west of Ireland. The Viscount Gort title was created on January 16, 1816 for John Prendergast-Smith, 1st Baron Kiltarthorn (1742-1817), in the Irish Peer system . On February 8, 1946, John Prendergast Standish Certis Werker, 6th Viscount Gort (1886–1946), became a peer in the United Kingdom , receiving the title of Viscount Gort from Hamsterley Hall.
Viscount Gort ( Ireland )
In 1816, the Viscount Gort title was created for the Irish politician John Prendergast-Smith (1742-1817). In 1810, he was created the title of Baron Kiltarton from Gort in County Galway ( Peerstvo Ireland ). He was the nephew of Sir Thomas Prendergast, 2nd Baronet (d. 1760). In 1760, after the death of his uncle, John Prendergast Smith inherited his estates. Lord Gort had no sons, he was succeeded in 1817 by his nephew , Charles Werker , the son of his sister Juliana from marriage to Thomas Werker. Charles Werker, 2nd Viscount Gort (1768–1842), represented Limerick in the Irish House of Commons (1794–1801) and in the British House of Commons (1802–1817). From 1824 to 1842, he served in the House of Lords of Great Britain as en: Representative Peer of Ireland Peer-Representative .
His son, John Prendergast Werker, 3rd Viscount Gort (1790-1865) became his successor. He also sat in the House of Commons from Limerick (1817-1820). In 1865, he was an Irish peer-representative in the House of Lords of Great Britain.
Viscount Gort ( United Kingdom )
John Standish Certificates Prendergast Werker, 6th Viscount Gort (1886–1946), was a prominent British statesman and military figure. After the creation of the Irish Free State in 1922, the Werker family emigrated and settled in the county of Durham (Scotland). He showed personal courage during the First World War, was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest award of the British Empire. In 1937 - 1939 - Chief of the Imperial General Staff. He served as Governor of Gibraltar (1941-1942) and Malta (1942-1944), High Commissioner of Palestine and Transjordan (1944-1945). In 1943 he received the rank of Field Marshal of the British Army. In February 1946, the Viscount Gort title was created for him from Hamsterley Hall in Durham County ( United Kingdom Peerstvo ). The two sons of John Standish Werker, the 6th Viscount Gort, died during the life of his father, so after his death the title of the British Viscount was interrupted, and the Irish title of the Viscount Gort was inherited by his younger brother, Standish Wercker, 7th Viscount Gort (1888-1975).

The Honorable Standish Robert Gage Werker inherited the Viscount and Baron titles after the death in 1946 of his older brother, Field Marshal John Standish Werker. In 1934, he served as the supreme sheriff of Durham .
After his death in 1975, the title passed to his cousin, Colin Wercker, 8th Viscount Gort (1916-1995). Colin Werker was the grandson of the Honorable Foley Charles Prendergast Werker, the second son of the 4th Viscount Gort. The 8th Lord Gord resided on the Isle of Man , where he was a member of the House of Commons , the lower house of parliament on the island (1966-1971). In 1995, he was succeeded by his son, Foley Werker, 9th Viscount Gort (born 1951 ). He also lives on the Isle of Man .
