Biography
Paul Beyer was born in Salt Lake City in 1954 . In adolescence, he became fascinated by the guitar, having heard the performance of compositions for lute bass by j . S. Bach , arranged for guitar by Julian Brim . In 1973, while studying in Germany, he became acquainted with the practice of performing on historical instruments and decided to change the guitar to the lute. He studied the lute game under the guidance of Diana Poulton ( English Diana Poulton ) at the Royal College of Music in London , which he graduated in 1977.
Paul Beyer has performed solo concerts in Europe, North and South America, Australia . He was a member of major music festivals. Performs music from the Renaissance to high Baroque .
In the 1990s, Pavel Beyer founded Ensemble Galatea (the ensemble specializes in the performance of Italian music of the 17th century , well-known musicians played with him: violinist Monica Hagget and vocalists Michael Chance and Emanuela Galli), is its artistic director. He took part in the productions of baroque operas at La Scala and the Santa Fe Opera House. He performs with the ensembles of Aglaia, Aurora, La Cetra, Ensemble Concerto, Nova Ars Cantandi, Pacific Baroque, La Risonanza [1] . In September 2015, Paul Beyer performed a duet with Michael Chance at the opening of the 18th Earlymusic International Festival in St. Petersburg .
He became the first musician to perform works for the lute by Michelangelo Galalei and attracted attention to his work. Recorded in 1991 his writings from Il primo libro d'intavolatura di liuto ( Munich , 1620 ) [2] .
Since 1981 she has been living in Milan , teaching at Civica Scuola di Musica a lute, basso continuo and renaissance ensemble [3] .
Paul Beyer is one of the founders of the Italian Luteists Society. He is the editor of the American Luteist Society Bulletin and a member of the editorial board of the American Luteist Society Journal [4] .
