Myatlev, Ivan Ivanovich

Ivan Ivanovich Myatlev (Ivan Ivanovich Zhity Myatlev-Sliznev) - statesman of the second half of the XVI century.

Biography

The grandson of the first representative of the Myatlev family, Grigory Ivanovich Sliznev, nicknamed Myatel [1] . In 1550, being the son of the boyar in Vyazma , together with his brothers Andrei and Grigory, he was among the 1000 "best servants" - provincial landowners whom Ivan IV decided to relocate to the districts closest to Moscow "for their sovereign's military business of haste so that they were always ready ", And according to the 3rd category he received an estate with a land share of 100 quarters [2] . In 1555-1557 he served as the third governor in Cheboksary . In 1562-1563, the patrolman and esaul in the Polotsk campaign of Ivan IV, undertaken during the Livonian War , after that - governor in Roslavl [3] . In 1567 he participated in a campaign from Novgorod to Lithuania, being "in the camp of the sovereign", in the same year he was enrolled in the oprichnina. In 1568/69 he served as the third governor from the oprichnina in Rzhev , and in 1569 - the second governor of the right-hand regiment in the oprichnina discharge of the coastal service.

Mentioned in discharge books as serving in the New ("Oprichrich") and the Old Zemsky Courts in 1565/66, 1571, 1572 and 1577, for some time he was a judge (that is, the head) of one or both courtyards [4] [5] . According to some reports, during the campaign against the Swedes in 1571, he was appointed the first siege governor in the Zemsky court [6] .
