SMC2 or structural support protein of chromosomes number two ( Eng. Structural maintenance of chromosomes protein 2 ), also known as the chromosome-associated polypeptide E, is a protein that is encoded by the SMC2 gene in humans [1] [2] .

SMC-2 is a subunit of condensins I and II, large protein complexes that are involved in the condensation of chromosomes.
