Gonzalez was selected at the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft by the Florida Marlins Club, and later traded to the Texas Rangers . In 2006, he moved to the San Diego Padres , which included four times to participate in the all-Major League Baseball game and twice received the Golden Trap award. After the end of the 2010 season, one year before the completion of the contract with the Padres, he was exchanged for the Boston Red Sox . In August 2012 he moved to the Dodgers.
Despite the fact that Gonzalez was born in the United States, he played for the Mexican national team at the World Baseball Classics 2006, 2009 and 2013.
