Asian Figure Skating Trophy

Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy is an annual figure skating competition . The tournament was previously called Asian Figure Skating Championships (until 2007), Asian Figure Skating Trophy (until 2013). Sometimes this tournament is equated with the unofficial championship of the Asian figure skaters.

Held under the auspices of the International Union of Skaters (ISU), the organizer is the Asian Confederation of Skaters (ASU).

Athletes compete in the men's single skating , women's single figure skating and sometimes pair skating categories. As a rule, the competition is held before the start of the sports season in August.

Competitions are held among adults (seniors), juniors and beginners (novices).

History

The Asian Figure Skating Championship is not held, Asian skaters of some countries take part in the European , the rest in the championship of four continents , which has been held since the end of the 20th century .

In the championship of four continents, the main backbone is athletes from Asia . Asian skaters began to compete among themselves in the mid-80s of the 20th century at the Asian Games . However, not all winter games tournaments were attended by skaters, and the games themselves are not held regularly.

At the beginning of the XXI century, the Asian Confederation of Skaters (ACS) suggested that skaters hold a regular Cup of the continent. The first tournament was held in Taipei, the capital of the island of China, in August 2007 . The ISU did not control the first two tournaments and the points won did not count towards the skaters. The tournament is held at the beginning of the season and many leading figure skaters do not take part in it.

At the beginning of June 2018, at the ISU Congress, it was decided, as an experiment, in the next season (2018/2019) to include the tournament in the annual Challenger series .
