The script was written by Chris Brancato and Brazilian director Jose Pedilla ( Elite Squad , Robocop ) [22] . The plot is based on the history of the formation of the Colombian drug cartels and the struggle between the OBN and these criminal syndicates. The main storyline is centered around the confrontation between Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and OBN agent Stephen Murphy (Boyd Holbrook), who flies to Colombia from the United States undercover to eliminate Escobar [23] . The shooting of the series took place in Colombia [24] .

Critics' ratings

The series was warmly received by critics. On the IMDB website, its rating is 8.9 / 10 based on more than 100,000 ratings [25] . On the Rotten Tomatoes profile portal , the series rating is 78%, based on 45 reviews, with an average rating of 6.6 / 10 [26] . One reviewer criticized the “terribly mistaken decision” to narrate on behalf of the “polished gringo - a young, promising UBN agent”; another hopes that in the end, viewers will be interested in the real story of Escobar, which is "superior to fiction." The final verdict (on the site) reads: "The series lacks characters who would like to empathize with, but it keeps the viewer on the screen with a strong action and story that develops quite dynamically, thanks to which typical" genre "cliches are not so evident" [27 ] . On Metacritic, the series scored 77 points out of 100, based on 19 reviews [28] .
