The career of S. P. Nikulin began in 1976 at the Vympel Moscow Machine-Building Plant, where he, as an assistant foreman, went through all the stages of engineering and managerial positions and in 1993 headed the Vympel Moscow Machine-Building Plant OJSC.
In 1993-2009, he was General Director of Vympel Moscow Machine-Building Plant OJSC. About 200 pieces of equipment of various space-rocket systems (including those under the international programs of the ISS, Sea Launch, Sesat, Iridium, and also under the national programs "Cosmos", "Salute", "World", "Forecast", "Breeze-M", "Rokot", "Frigate", "Arrow") were manufactured, tested and put into operation under the guidance and under direct participation of Nikulin, for his personal creative contribution to the implementation of space programs and projects he was awarded He was awarded the “Korolev Sign”, and in December 2002 - a diploma of the commander of strategic missile forces. The absolute winner of the Moscow contest “Manager of the Year 2000”, the winner of the Russian contest “Manager of the Year 2000” in the nomination “Industry”.
In addition to space subjects, under the leadership of S.P. Nikulin, the plant developed and mastered the production of new X-ray diagnostic equipment, which has found application in medical institutions in Russia and the near abroad.
