History

The group was formed in 1993 in the city of Stavanger , Norway by Sanraab, Dolgar and Sir Vereda. The trio reached the studio only in the spring. Sunrabb and Dolgar divided the parts of vocals, guitars, bass and synthesizers, while Vereda left only drums. In June, Gehenna had its first demo, Black Seared Heart , made in 100 copies. A couple of tracks from this film were hooked by the Dutch label Necromatic Gallery and released them in the form of a single called Ancestors of the darkly sky . Soon after, Vereda had problems with the law, and he went to jail, and Dolgar and Sanrabb set about searching for a new drummer. As a result, Dirge Rep sat down to the drums, and at the same time, the bass player Svartalv also appeared, which allowed the two founders of "Gehenna" to take up music closely. In January 1994, the group again visited the studio, intending to record a full album. However, the sessions were interrupted, and the musicians managed to realize only three compositions. Intensive rehearsals began in February and the first Gehenna concert took place at that time. Sarkana, who later became a keyboard player in the group, attended that performance. With the new member, the team once again made an attempt to record an album, and this time it succeeded. First Spell was released on the local label Head Not Found , but thanks to him, the group received a two-album contract from the English label Cacophonous Records . Seen Through The Veils of Darkness , which appeared on the set in 1995, brought the team to the forefront of Norwegian black. Shortly after the release, Svartalv moved to Oslo, where he joined Nocturnal Breed . "Gehenna" was invited to the session of Noctifer's next album, but he managed to record only one song, after which the bassist was kicked out. Then, on a sessional basis of 122 Stab Wounds , I. N. Det was engaged. Everything went smoothly with this musician, and by the beginning of the tour in support of the album, Death became a full member of the team. After several rounds, the group lost two of its members. Sarkana left to organize her techno-project, and Rep, quarreling with Sunrabb, moved to Enslaved . The keyboards were transferred to Damien, and the drums were given to Blod. When the group gathered in the studio, it turned out that the music of "Gehenna" has changed significantly and become more brutal. This was due to the absence of Sarkana and the fact that Blod had previously specialized in death metal. To begin with, the musicians released the single Deadlights , followed by the full-length album Adimiron Black . In 1999, Damien followed suit Svartalva and moved to Oslo. With the new keyboardist Kine, "Gehenna" recorded the album Murder , after which another wave of internal strife hit the band. As a result of the showdown, Dolgar, Det and Blod left, and only Sunrabb remained from the original composition. Only in 2003 did Dolgar and Sanrabb manage to resolve the differences and Gehenna resumed operations.
