Career
Asdis Hyalmsdouttir began performing at the international youth competitions in 2001. In 2005, she reached the adult level and won three medals at the Games of small European states , of which two are of the highest standard.
In 2008, Iceland made her Olympic debut, performing in javelin throwing . Her performance was unsuccessful: in the first two qualifying attempts, she made an intercession, and in the last attempt she threw a spear at only 48.59, which brought her only the 50th place out of 54 athletes.
At the 2009 and 2011 world championships , Asdis was not able to overcome the qualification barrier, although in Daegu she became thirteenth in qualification, only half a meter from overcoming the qualification.
At the London Games, Asdis Hyalmsdouttir carried the flag of Iceland during the opening ceremony. In the lance thrower competition, an Icelandic with a personal record of 62.77 overcame the qualification, but in the final round she could not throw 60 meters and became the eleventh.
In 2015, Asdis won gold in javelin throwing at the home games of the small states of Europe and became the second in discus throwing. At the World Championships in Beijing, she could not qualify, throwing her spear only 56.72.
