Early years
The artist was born in Warsaw. As a boy, he served as the page of the last king of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Stanislav II Augustus [3] . For the first time, he began to study drawing in Warsaw, in the studio of the famous painter Marcello Bachcharelli [3] . With the support of the king, Kukharsky went to Paris to study and work at the Royal Academy, which he did in the years 1760-1769.
Years of Creativity
The King of Poland wanted the young man to learn to write historical canvases, but he decided to become a portrait painter , thus losing royal support. In 1776–1768 Kukharsky served Prince Conde [3] .
The artist loved to create portraits at half the height of a man. He worked with pastels and oils, but also occasionally resorted to gouaches and painted miniatures. The clients of the painter were mainly French and Polish aristocrats [3] . The number of the latter in France increased as a result of the marriage of Louis XV to the polka Maria Lieschinskaya [3] .
In 1789, Kukharsky became an artist of Marie-Antoinette [3] . He painted her herself, the royal children, the princess de Lamballe, other persons, and even the Russian Empress Catherine the Great [3] .
Today, the most famous works of Kukharsky are portraits of the doomed French royal family, especially the Dauphin . The last portrait of Marie-Antoinette (1793 of creation) was sold at auction on May 21, 2003. Kukharsky is also considered the author [4] .
