The Manifesto of Culture ( Indonesia. Manifes Kebudayaan ) - a programmatic statement of 22 Indonesian cultural figures led by literary critic H. B. Yassin (1917–2000), writer Trisno Sumardio (1916–1969) and journalist Viratmo Sukito (1929–2001), published August 17, 1963 [1] . Among the signatories were young poets Taufik Ismail and Gunawan Mohamad , the well-known sociologist and human rights activist Arif Budiman . It condemned totalitarianism, defended universal human values and contained a demand for freedom of creativity and culture outside politics. Prohibited by decree of President Sukarno from 8.5.1964. Some of the initiators of the manifesto were subjected to repression [2] .
